With all apologies to our southern hemisphere players, winter is coming. To prepare against the cold, we need more players to heat up our servers, which double as Playful HQ’s heating system.

In all seriousness, we are feeling good enough about Creativerse’s stability that we are ready to widen the audience a bit and really see what our servers can handle. We’re hoping a sale will help us get there. It’s an essential step on our journey to eventually going free to play next year.

You can help us by letting your friends know and then playing the heck out of Creativerse together. It’s the perfect time to get together and let your friends build a temple to your glory while renting them space in your catacombs for the small price of 17 tempered iron bars a day.

R7: The Dawn of the Rise of the Planet of the Female Avatar

Creatifriends!

We’re back with another exciting update, R7. First up, now you finally have the choice to play as a female in Creativerse! Time to get in touch with your feminine side and start adventuring with an extra X chromosome (digitally speaking, of course). Speaking of characters, I’ll give a shout out to customization — we know a lot of you want it, so I wanted to mention it is on our roadmap (could be a while, though — so much to get done first!).

By popular request, we’ve added signs! You can craft and place wooden signs to display all your deepest hopes, fears and desires. Or maybe just a big “MY STUFF – KEEP OUT!” warning. But we didn’t stop there. We also added labels for teleporters and chests, which should come in handy for those of you who like to set up chest rooms made entirely of chests.

This update also introduces the first round of admin tools we’ve been promising for a while now. Worlds now have owners, who can promote players to admins, mods, builders or visitors. Those with appropriate privileges can mute, kick or even ban troublesome players. It’s the beginning of a larger system we plan to roll out which will give you full control of your world and let you open it up to anyone without risking griefer chaos.

For our builders, while we don’t have any new standard blocks this time (next time — promise!), we do have some new windows, including stone and barred varieties for sending a message in rougher neighborhoods.

Lastly, don’t miss the new death animation. We know you’ll be dying to check it out! Hahaha…I’m so, so sorry.

Come Hunt for Keepa and Arcstones in Creativerse R6

Greetings Creatifriends!

As promised, R6 is a big update.

We’re most excited for you to meet Keepa, a new mob who’s found his way into your worlds (and our hearts). He’s rare, though, so you’ll have to figure out how to bump into him.

He’s also hoarding a new type of resource — the super shiny Arcstones! Arcstones are used in a whole slew of new craftable items, so be prepared for a lot of close encounters with the Keepa creepa if you want to deck your halls with, say, Grand Arc Lanterns.

You’ll see the beginnings of a new buff system in this update. Once you’ve crafted and knocked back a few questionably smelly potions, you’ll know what we’re talking about. Try walking around the corruption layer after imbibing the mysteriously named “Corruption Resistance Potion” and see what we mean.

For you builders out there, check out the new Romanesque blocks. Finally, you can put all that limestone and bedrock to good use and build the city of your dreams. No really, please build the city of your dreams and decorate our community hub with screenshots. We love seeing that stuff!

Split Some Stacks in Creativerse R5

Greetings Creatifriends,

First of all, we admit R5 is on the lighter side in terms of new features. But we promise to make up for it in R6. In fact, we’re really starting to hit our stride here at Playful HQ and anticipate the next few releases will be heavier than usual, so get ready for a bunch of new toys in the sandbox.

In the meantime, there’s still some neat stuff to play with this time. You can finally split stacks. Now your buddy has no excuse not to share his stash of vines. You’ll also see new and improved art for the loot bag, gauntlet and bombs. And first time players will see a radar on their compass that makes finding that essential first crafting station more obvious.

R4 — The Arctek Update

Hello Creatifriends,

There’s a couple cool things to talk about with this release. First, as mentioned earlier, this version has no store or mojo, and we’ve removed the ability to skip any timers. They are now part of the game and will no longer be tied to pay to play mechanics. To further ensure this feels like a step forward, we’ve re-balanced all the timers, starting with removing them for the Crafting Station and shortening many of them for the Forge, Processor and Extractor.

And in this release we’re replacing a lot of art with a new style we call Arctek. You saw a smidge of this last time with the new teleporters, but you’ll see it all over the place this time. Stations, beacons, touchstones, and more have been recalibrated with the new style. Let us know what you think!

The Store Is Taking a Vacation

So if you’ve been thinking about buying something — get it now.

Hey guys,

We’ve talked a lot about our plans to change the store in Creativerse — which, by the way, was largely a result of all the great feedback we got from you.

The first phase of that change will be happening with the next update. We will be turning off the store entirely. We will also be removing timers on the crafting station and tweaking all the other timers slightly (e.g. for the forge, processor and extractors). You will no longer be able to skip any timers, and they will never be tied to purchases again. A few updates later, we’ll bring a new and improved store back featuring a bunch of new stuff — extras, buffs, and cosmetics, etc.

We may bring back some of the items currently featured in the store, but there’s no guarantee all the recipes and bundles will be identical. So if you were on the fence about wanting that Firework recipe or the Cathedral Pack, we suggest you get it soon. The new update could be live as early as next Monday.

R2 (Release 2) IS HERE!

We’re so excited to get this first major release out to you guys! OMG we’re sorry it took so long. Promise we’re working hard to get to a point where we can roll out amazing new updates on a much more regular basis and you can expect that in the future. We won’t be satisfied until Creativerse is surprising you with amazing new features and improvements multiple times a month!

When we first launched Creativerse, we had a vision for this incredible connection we wanted to have with our players and our community. We never expected we’d get to this point so soon. You are helping us on a daily basis guide the development and direction of this game. We are overwhelmed with gratitude. Thank you thank you thank you! We won’t let you down.

We’ve tried to keep track of people who’ve been reporting bugs and we’ve mentioned a number of you in the bug fix note section below. If we missed your name in this list, please forgive us, there were a lot of you! And that’s not even mentioning all of the incredible ideas, suggestions, and thoughtful discussions we’ve been having with you on the Steam forums. I hope you can see some of those suggestions implemented in this new release, and there will be so many more coming soon!

Creativerse Servers: Regular Downtime Schedule

Hi all!

[9/25 UPDATE]: We are switching the server downtime on Wed and Fri to 10 am CST instead of 1:30 pm CST. This change accounts for the fact that fewer players are typically online at that time.

Starting Wednesday, August 27th, we’re going to begin regularly scheduled downtimes for the Creativerse servers. We’ll use these downtimes to reboot the servers and deploy new updates.

The downtimes will be Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 1:30 p.m. CST, and should last no more than 45 minutes (usually less).

We believe these downtimes will help with general server stability and keep things running smoothly.

Three scheduled downtimes a week is an extra dose of caution on our part. As we continue through early access, we’ll monitor things to see if we can scale this back to less frequent downtimes (once or twice a week). Further down the road, we’ll look into moving the downtimes to a better time of day as well.

If we need to add any unscheduled downtimes to support deploying a new build or a hotfix, we’ll make every effort to give the community a couple of hours of notice.
